Loc Extensions
Service Overview
Duration: 6+ hours
Price: $500+ (install) + $500 (hair)
Loc extensions add length and fullness to your locs without the months or years it takes to grow them. Lizzy offers loc extensions in Landover Hills, Maryland, in a private studio where she works with one client at a time. Whether your own locs need more length or you want fuller locs from the start, the goal is a blend that moves and looks like your natural hair.
Plan for 6 hours or more. Installation starts at $500, and Lizzy does not include the hair in that price. You can bring your own hair, or you can request premium human hair for an additional $500. A consultation and a retainer come first, so you know the plan before you commit.
What Are Loc Extensions?
Loc extensions add extra hair to your locs to give you more length and fullness. The extension hair blends with your natural locs, so the finished look reads as one set of locs.
Many clients choose extensions for instant results. Growing locs to a longer length can take years, while extensions give you that length in a single long appointment. Others like the extra fullness, or they want a bolder look than their natural hair allows.
Two Ways to Add Extensions
Two approaches are available, and your hair decides which one fits.
Add extensions to your existing locs. Lizzy attaches extension hair directly to your own locs to add length.
Start with extension hair. Lizzy builds your locs using extension hair from the beginning, which gives you length and fullness from the first day.
Your current length, density, and the condition of your locs all matter. Lizzy recommends the right approach at your consultation, so you do not choose one just because it is popular.
Hair Matching: Texture, Color, and Diameter
A natural look depends on a close match. Texture, color, and diameter all need to line up with your existing locs, because a poor match makes the extensions stand out instead of blending in.
A careful match at your consultation prevents that problem before it starts. It also helps you avoid an uneven or obviously added look.
Lizzy does not include hair in the installation price, so you have two choices:
Bring your own hair. Ask Lizzy before you buy, so the texture, color, and amount suit your locs.
Request premium human hair. Lizzy provides it for an additional cost, listed at $500.
Weight and Your Natural Locs
Extensions add length and weight to each loc. Too much weight on thin or stressed locs can lead to breakage or shedding at the root. For that reason, Lizzy balances the amount of extension hair against the strength of your natural locs.
If your locs are already thin or fragile, they may need attention first. In that case, loc repair can give your locs a stronger base before you add length. Lizzy checks your locs at your consultation and tells you what she sees.
Who Should Consider Loc Extensions?
Loc extensions may suit you if:
You want more length without waiting for natural growth.
You want fuller, bolder locs.
Your locs are strong enough to support extra weight.
You can set aside 6 hours or more for your appointment.
You can keep up with regular maintenance.
Some goals call for a different service. If you want thicker locs instead of longer ones, look at wicks and loc combining. If your locs show thinning or breakage, start with loc repair.
Not sure whether your locs can support extensions? Send photos on WhatsApp, along with a reference photo of the length you want. Lizzy will tell you what is realistic.
What to Expect at Your Extensions Appointment
Every extensions service begins with a consultation. After that, the process follows four steps.
Consultation. Lizzy checks your locs, talks through your length and fullness goals, and recommends a method.
Booking. You choose your hair, either your own or premium human hair from Lizzy. Then you pay a non-refundable retainer to secure your appointment.
Installation. On the day, Lizzy installs your extensions. Plan for 6 hours or more.
Aftercare. Before you leave, ask how to care for your extensions and when to book your first maintenance visit.
Long appointments go better with a little planning. Eat beforehand, wear comfortable clothes, and bring water and something to do. Ask Lizzy at your consultation how she plans the day, including breaks. Also follow any preparation instructions she gives you, such as whether to wash your hair first.
Caring for Your Extensions
Good habits help your extensions stay secure and blended.
Protect your hair at night. Sleep with a satin bonnet or scarf.
Avoid pulling when you style. Excess tension can stress the roots of your natural locs.
Keep your maintenance visits on time. New growth builds up at the roots, as it does with any set of locs.
Choose light products. Heavy oils and waxes can build up inside longer locs.
Allow extra drying time. Longer, heavier locs hold more water.
Speak up early. Tell Lizzy if a loc feels heavy, tender, or loose.
Maintenance can change once you add extensions, so ask Lizzy for a schedule that fits your set. You can also read more on the Loc Retwist Maintenance page.
How long your extensions last depends on your hair growth, your care habits, and your maintenance schedule. Ask Lizzy for an estimate for your set at your consultation.
Loc Extensions: Realistic Expectations
Extensions give you a lot, and honest expectations make the experience better.
What you can expect: Instant length and fullness, extension hair matched to your locs, and more styling options.
What to consider: The appointment takes many hours. Lizzy prices the installation and the hair separately. Added weight puts demands on your natural locs, so they need to be strong. You also need regular maintenance. As with any hair service, no one can promise a specific result, because hair varies from person to person.
Consultation and Booking Process
Lizzy requires a consultation before any extensions work. Choose the option that suits you:
A free photo or video review. Send clear, well-lit photos or a short video of your locs on WhatsApp, along with a reference photo of the length you want. Lizzy replies with guidance.
A 30-minute live consultation for $25. Choose a virtual or an in-person session. Your $25 counts toward your first service.
After your consultation, you pay a non-refundable retainer to secure your appointment, and then you can book your loc extensions service. Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule or cancel. Late arrivals, same-day cancellations, and no-shows may forfeit the retainer, and the Payment Policy page explains the details.

Plan for at least 6 hours, so clear your day. The exact time depends on your hair length and the amount of hair you add, and Lizzy gives you an estimate at your consultation.
How much do loc extensions cost?
Installation starts at $500, and the hair is not included. You can bring your own hair, or you can request premium human hair for an additional $500. Lizzy confirms your total at your consultation.
Can I bring my own hair?
Yes. Ask Lizzy before you buy, so the texture, color, and amount match your locs. A close match gives you a more natural result.
Will loc extensions damage my natural locs?
Extensions add weight, so your natural locs need to be strong enough to carry it. Too much weight on thin or stressed locs can cause breakage or shedding at the root. Lizzy checks your locs at your consultation and balances the amount of hair to suit them.
How long do loc extensions last?
It depends on how fast your hair grows, how you care for it, and how often you book maintenance. Ask Lizzy for an estimate for your set at your consultation.
Can loc extensions look natural?
They can, when the texture, color, and diameter match your own locs. A careful match at your consultation helps you avoid an obviously added look.
